"Let him that would move the world first move himself." Socrates As the School of Family Life Student Association, we recognize that to transform the world, we must first change ourselves. Therefore, our mission is to unite our student body, research and reveal professional opportunities, and facilitate new and empowering connections, while assisting students in securing their future in an effort to change the world one person at a time. We hope to accomplish this mission by:

  • Fostering one-on-one involvement with professors
  • Increasing awareness of diverse research opportunities
  • Educating students of job opportunities available with a SFL degree
  • Improving student knowledge of academic internships and professional opportunities
  • Uniting students and facilitating collaboration in a fun and educational setting

The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Family & Consumer Studies Department is comprised of both graduate and undergraduate students who are declared majors within the department and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students involved in SAC richly enhance their college experience through service, and develop leadership abilities valued by graduate schools and future employers. SAC's primary responsibility is to represent Family and Consumer Studies students at the departmental, college, and university level. SAC provides opportunities for students and faculty to interact and exchange information. SAC helps form mentoring relationships through incorporating faculty in SAC-sponsored events such as lectures, service projects, and student information sessions. For further information, contact Michael David, SAC Chair, at mikewuh@gmail.com or call 801-581-4431.

The Child and Family Studies Student Association (CFSSA) is one of the most active student organizations on the WSU campus and won the 2005 Crystal Crest Organization of the Year. The main goal of CFSSA is to increase awareness of family issues. It is also the intent of the student organization to enhance community, state and nationwide recognition of the Child and Family Studies Department. CFSSA hosts two Open Hours each semester where they invite local professionals to talk with students regarding their career. In February of each year, CFSSA hosts a Career Roundtable inviting several professionals from the Ogden community to share with students as well. Other activities include two community services projects each semester, various fundraising projects to raise funds for students to attend the National Council on Family Relations and the National Association for the Education of Young Children annual conferences, hosting Student Socials, and publishing and distributing the CFSSA Newsletter.
